I'm sorry it took me so long, but hey, here it is!
Part 2 of the XNALara & Blender tutorial.

Of course you could just Photoshop the lightmap to get rid of the shadows, but I use this all the time to make my custom combinations more realistic, such as if I put together new gear and want it to have shadows on the shorts/pants/whatever.

Thank you XNAaraL for showing me this! :huggle:

:bulletred: I'm thinking of remaking some of the tutorials in the german Mesh Modding thread on TRF to make them like the rest of the tutorials I've made, so it's nice and all together. Very often the tutorials have more detailed description in german than english, so that's another reason. What do you guys think? :bulletred:

I hope you can help me out here. I need to create a light-map from scratch too. Is it the same or do I need to find a different tutorial. I am basically done with my mesh-mod and I am just adding light-maps now, but I have never made one before and people keep directing me here. Either I am stupid or this tutorial doesn't tell me what I need to know for starting a light-map from scratch? I just don't know. I really hope you can help, I would really like to put this model to bed, I have been working on it for ages now ><

Someone below said "The part that I need to edit the light-map on, just turns black and doesn't generate a new light map." That's happening to me too only the hair one I made worked. But the face I am using never had a light-map to start with, so I have to make it from scratch as I said. The body has a light-map as does the hair so I will try to make those first I guess, while I wait to here back from you. I do so hope you can help me out with this!

I'm having alittle bit of an issue. The part that I need to edit the lightmap on, just turns black and doesn't generate a new light map, only the hair of the model does. What should I do?

I'm still trying to get the hang of this. I'm able to create a light map and make it work in XNA, but I'm having a problem with the legs. It always looks like this: [link] My lightmap looks like this: [link] What do you think I should do?

Yes that happens a lot. Try removing doubles before baking the lightmap. If I remember correctly, it helped a bit, but in the end I just had to make the darker end of the lightmap slightly lighter (with Photoshop or any editing program), so it matches the other end. Hope you get what I mean. :aww:

This tutorial is awesome, but after reading it completely I'm still alittle confused. I hope I don't sound like a total jackass for asking this... but what exactly is a lightmap? I mean does it do anything to make the model look better when it's rendered?

That's okay. :D Well it is controlling how much light will affect certain parts of a mesh. So a dark spot on the lightmap means that spot won't be affected by light much, while a light spot will be bright. You can apply it when rendering... somehow. :D I think it doesn't make much of a difference though, so I didn't even bother learning it. :aww:
