Old tutorial for Blender 2.49 [link]
:bulletorange: This is the new updated version of it for Blender 2.6. :bulletorange:

:bulletblack: I am using model X from a different game Y and I have a problem with ... !
This tutorial should work for most models, however, models exported from different games may be using different textures or something, that needs different settings than Lara's models. I'm sorry, but I can't help you with that.

I smooth out the whole model but it still looks really weird... :/ There's no difference when I smooth out the whole model.

Go to the Textures tab and look at the textures, chances are that there is a diffuse, normal, diffuse then another normal. Disable the second normal map by clicking on the check box for it then go down to Image Sampling and and hit the check box for Normal Map.

That's what helped me, and I figured it out on my own.

You need to have a mesh part selected first too! So right click on any mesh part and up at the top there should be a tab with a square resembling a checker board. Click that.

Follow the example above!
